The Lovebug quilt block is next in this Charity quilt along. I have been documenting my progress and sharing that with you in hopes that you also find this helpful.
Even with my alterations to this pattern, I have made all 5 of the quilt blocks listed in the instructions.
I want to highlight this unique block because of what you do to the hourglass blocks that become your star points. I love the fact that Corey Yoder was able to put some spice into this quilt block with just one cut.
You are cutting the hourglass blocks you make to create these uniquely starry blocks. I will leave a link to this pattern below.
Tips and Tricks
If you want some of that all-important wiggle room that I enjoy so much I would suggest cutting the fabric A, C, and E fabrics to 6 1/2” instead of the suggested size in the pattern.
This will cause you to have to trim down the hourglass blocks but they will also come out perfect this way.
Following all the other directions laid out in the pattern will have your quilt block coming together beautifully.
Bonus Blocks
Now since we are uniquely cutting these hourglass blocks instructed in the pattern. I was brainstorming what to do with the slim 1 1/2” rectangles leftover from the hourglass blocks. Then I realized that if you just make one cut you will now have 1 1/2” HSTs.
If you choose to make the few extra cuts you will have 40 of these little HSTs. I have saved mine for a future project. More details to come.

DonateNow speaking of Lovebugs. I remember my sunny Florida days sometimes being disturbed by lovebugs. When I saw the name of this pattern that bug is all I could think about. Am I the only one? Let me know what you thought when you saw the name of this block pattern in the comments below.
