The Maple Star quilt block reminds me of the maple leaf and the syrup that comes from the trees. Like the syrup, this quilt block is very sweet to put together. With this set of blocks, I decided to use warm colors with a very low contrast center. By not putting word print in the center of this block you won’t take away from the overall effect that makes it a Maple Star Quilt Block.
Tips and Tricks
This quilt block is simple so there isn’t much that needs changing. As usual, I altered the cutting instructions to make the 4-at-a-time flying geese method. This is a faster but also no-waste method for making flying geese.
Pressing flying geese open really helps keep the nose of the goose from being too bulky. So even on the larger block pressing your seams open on the flying geese units is quite helpful.
The pressing directions for the rest of the block are spot on. Even on the teeny tiny maple start quilt block.
Do you have a copy of the Summer Moon book? Have you started making the cover quilt? If not leave a comment below letting me know why. I know for me it was that I didn’t have an excuse to buy the fabric line featured on the cover of the book. Glad I found one!
