Heartfelt Charity Quilt Along: Beloved Quilt Block

Block 1: Beloved Quilt Block

The Heartfelt Charity Quilt Along is hosted by Fat Quarter Shop (FQS for short). They host a charity quilt along every year to benefit the Make a Wish Foundation of Central and South Texas. Corey Yoder is the designer for this year’s charity quilt. Fat Quarter Shop is making this pattern free but asks that you donate to the Make a Wish foundation.

If you would like to donate. Click Fat Quarter Shop below to make a donation. All donations are made directly to Make A Wish.

I bought the kit from FQS earlier in the year when the kit was still available. The benefit of buying the kit is that you get the pattern ahead of time. That should have helped me get this pattern finished a while ago but life became busy.

If you would like to find the patterns click Fat Quarter Shop.

Now to my plans…Muahahaha.

When I saw this lovely pattern I knew I was going to make this bigger and add some different quilt blocks to it. So I will be sharing with you my tips, tricks, alterations, and additions.

The first block is the Beloved Quilt Block. I love this beautiful star and heart combination.

With this block, I decided to make all 5 block variations. I have changed the design of the original quilt so I have to be careful of how many block variations I make.

Tips and Tricks

Pressing my flying geese open has always been a winner for me. If I sew them the traditional way or the 4 at a time way. Pressing open has just worked out well for me. So that is what I did.

Now I did change the cutting instructions so I could make my 4 at a time flying geese. I love making them that way but if you also decide to do this. Sit down read the entire pattern and then write down your altered cutting instructions for each block.

Beloved Bonus Quilt Blocks

Bonus Quilt Blocks

I love getting extra bonus blocks from a quilt block I am already making.

After you sew fabric C to the F fabric. Don’t toss that extra fabric you have trimmed away! Sew those two triangles together. If you do that with all your quilt blocks you will have 10 bonus 2 1/2″ half-square triangles.
