Checkerboard Quilt Block
When I saw this quilt block I knew that I was going to figure out a way to change this block entirely. I disliked the idea of wasting my time sewing all the stitch and flip corners. I also didn’t like the amount of fabric wasted in making this block.
So I got to work figuring out how to sew this quilt block just like I sewed the first block the Album quilt Block.
The construction and cutting instructions will be listed below. The complete alteration of this block is my own design and creation. The information I will provide below will not be an exact replacement.
These blocks will be similar to the actual Checkerboard blocks but not exactly. These blocks unlike the ones in the book will float. This means there will be more than 1/4” between the edge and the inner printed squares.
Cutting Instructions
Sewing Instructions
1. Sew your fabric squares into rows as shown in the diagram below. Press all your seams towards the printed fabric C squares.
2. Sew the rows to each other as shown in the diagram below. Press away from the center row.
3. Trim the quilt block to measure…
5” for the small
6 1/2” for the medium
and 8” for the large quilt block.
You now have what looks like the Checkerboard block! You have made this block without all that extra time spent in sewing the stitch and flip corners plus the wasted fabric.
